SDCC ’11: Hermes Press hosts the only Dark Shadows Programming!
Hermes Press shines a light on Dark Shadows with the only panel dedicated to the classic TV show the entire San Diego Comic Con, while also debuting the long-lost Dark Shadows Story Digest, an illustrated graphic novel from 1970 which has been completely recolored and redesigned! Like the enigmatic vampire Barnabas Collins, the Dark Shadows film is being elusive at this year’s SDCC, but come to our panel for a tip or two about Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s cinematic take on the coolest vampire this side of Dracula.
Join us on Friday, July 22nd from 6 to 7 in room 4, with special guests Lara Parker and Kathryn Leigh Scott, as well as Dan Curtis Productions’ own Jim Pierson, a producer of the new movie. Lara played the witch Angelique Collins, who cursed Barnabas to his eternal curse, and continued to haunt him throughout the series, while Kathryn played Collinsport girl Maggie Evans, who just happened to be the reflection of Barnabas’s long-lost love.
Lara, Kathyrn and Jim will recount the classic cult TV soap opera that ran from 1966 to 1971, publisher Dan Herman will update fans on the latest classic Dark Shadows material coming out from Hermes Press, and Jim just may have a scoop or two from behind the scenes of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s upcoming Dark Shadows feature film!
Hermes is also unveiling The Dark Shadows Story Digest at Comic Con. Published in 1970 with an original story of Barnabas Collins, the Story Digest is written by Donald Arneson and drawn by Joe Certa and has remained buried for decades. The Story Digest's reissue was digitally remastered from the original book and also includes supplemental photos from the TV show.
Kathryn and Lara will both be signing at the Hermes Press booth (#1821-23) on Friday from 1-6, and Kathryn will be signing on Saturday from 1-4. While you’re there, be sure to pick up the Comic Con debut of The Dark Shadows Story Digest. We’ll also have copies of Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series Volume 1 and Volume 2 on hand, for you to get your Dark Shadows fix SDCC weekend.
Ben Cross (Barnabas Collins: 1991 Dark Shadows) and David Selby (Quentin Collins: 1966-71 Dark Shadows, 1971 Night of Dark Shadows) have been cast in Dracula.
Hermes Press Brings Rare Dark Shadows Digest Back from the Beyond!
When Hermes Press unearthed the comic book adventures of Dark Shadows’ tragic antihero, Barnabas Collins, we also rediscovered this rare gem, the Dark Shadows Story Digest from 1970! Combining illustrations by artist Joe Certa with a short story by Donald Arneson, the Story Digest features Barnabas taking an “The Interrupted Voyage” to reunite a ghost with her long-lost love. In typical Dark Shadows fashion, it happens to involve time travel and a run-in with Angelique the witch!
Not in print in decades, we resurrect this rare story with painstaking digital recoloring in flat tones, and the added bonus of supplemental Dark Shadows photos. The Dark Shadows Story Digest—The Original Series is timed for release at the San Diego Comic Con.
